About Boston University

Boston University was the first university to open all its divisions to female students in 1872, the first coeducational medical college in the world in 1873, and proudly lists Martin Luther King, Jr. among its distinguished alumni. BU was the first American university to award a Ph.D. to a woman, the first woman admitted to the bar in Massachusetts graduated from Boston University as well as the first African-American psychiatrist in the nation.

With 30,000 students from all 50 states and 140 countries, Boston University is the fourth largest independent university in the United States. For over 150 years, Boston University has anticipated the changing needs of its students while serving the greater needs of society.

About the College of Fine Arts

The Boston University College of Fine Arts was created in 1954 to bring together the School of Music, the School of Theatre, and the School of Visual Arts. The University's vision was to create a vibrant community of artists and educators offering professional training in the arts to both undergraduate and graduate students. Since those early days, education at the College of Fine Arts has begun on the BU campus and extended into the city of Boston, a rich center of cultural, artistic and intellectual activity. Through its international programs and online offerings in music and art education, the College now reaches a new and diverse group of students located throughout the world.

About the School of Visual Arts

With a faculty composed of practicing professional artists, the School offers an intensive program of studio training combined with liberal arts studies leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA). Courses prepare students for future study or professional practice in art education, painting, sculpture, or graphic design.
